How to remove Amazon’s “Frequently returned” warning.

What buyers see

Directly under your bullet points, Amazon shows “Frequently returned item”, often with a reason: “due to tight fit”, “due to loose fit” or “due to poor fit”. On amazon.de it reads “Häufig zurückgegebener Artikel”. Listings from other sellers can appear beneath it.

What triggers it, and how long it stays

The warning appears automatically when a listing’s return rate is above the average for its category. It cannot be appealed. It is removed after the return rate stays below that threshold for 30 consecutive days. Because returns arrive weeks after sales, sellers typically see the warning for 60 to 120 days.

Why it is usually a sizing-information problem

On clothing and shoes, most returns for fit are not defects. They happen because the buyer had to guess: letter sizes without measurements, a slim cut that is not called slim, a swimsuit without a torso length, a shoe without an insole length. The buyer orders their usual size, it does not fit, and it comes back.

The changes that clear it

1. Publish measurements in centimetres for every size: the ones that decide fit for that garment (bust and underbust for swimwear and bras, waist, thigh and inseam for jeans, insole length for shoes).
2. Say how it fits in the first bullet: slim, regular or relaxed, and whether to size up or down between sizes.
3. Show the fit: a model’s height and the size they wear, in the first images.
4. Read your return reasons in Seller Central (Voice of the Customer) and fix the listing for the reason buyers actually choose.
5. Answer fit questions in reviews and Q&A, so the next buyer sees the answer before ordering.

What does not work

Discounts, more advertising and asking Amazon to remove the warning do not change the return rate, so they do not remove the warning. Advertising a listing that carries it sends more buyers into the same returns.

Timing

Because clearing takes 30 days of good data after the fix, a change made in early October can clear before Black Friday. A change made in November usually cannot.
